New Stuff, New Life?

So, for those of you who don't already know. I bought a new phone recently. I did a poll here, but not many people seemed too interested in voting. After reading tons of reviews and comparing of specs, and of course checking prices, I had decided to settle on the Samsung Galaxy S2.

Having used a Samsung phone previously, lemme tell you that I did NOT have a very good experience with the Omnia 2. Perhaps it was just the laggy and buggy Windows Mobile 6.5 OS that was to blame. It took me a great deal of convincing myself, but I eventually decided to give Samsung another chance. And boy did I make the right decision. The phone is simply awesome. The 4.3" screen is so beautiful you can stare at it all day. It is almost 100% lag free, thanks to an amazing dual-core CPU. Photos and videos look great too @ 8.1MP/1080p.

But enough promotion, Samsung didn't pay me. The more important thing that I got, was the data plan. I didn't bother to sign up for it last time, simply because there wasn't much for me to do with it on my old phone. I feel super outdated, but at the same time pretty amazed at just being connected 24/7. It's not just the instant Email and Social networking notifications. Being a first time Android user, I am finding so many different types of Apps and new capabilities that I can do with my phone everyday!

Speaking of which, I've recently began using my Tumblr account and I just wanted to mention it here.

http://infinitepuzzlepieces.tumblr.com/

This is my new blog on Tumblr, do visit once in awhile and add me if you have an account there. If you have a smartphone with dataplan, I highly recommend you getting this App called PicPlz. It allows you to snap a picture, apply a variety of filters or effects, and then share it online through multiple sites like Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Flickr, etc. It's really great.

So anyway, about the blog. It's just a new project I'm trying out. A photo blog. Whenever I get the mood, or itch to take a picture, I'll just snap a pic, apply some effects, and post it onto Tumblr. It's meant to capture moments and solidify them as pictures, much like an oldschool photo album. The name "Infinite Puzzle Pieces" was inspired by the fact that it is a photo blog. Each individual photo is like a "puzzle piece" and represents a memory, and together they form my life story. And it is "Infinite" because HOPEFULLY, I will keep posting more pictures until I am dead, so to me that's alot of photos! I know, so dramatic right? What to do? OMGWTFEMOKIDZFTW  :P

That doesn't mean I'm closing down this blog though. Tumblr is great for mobile blogging, because it is compatible with so many apps, whereas Blogger is so rigid and inflexible. But for full fledged article style publishing, Blogger still does the job well. Yet, for more creative content, Tumblr is better. So I will still be posting my full fledged blog posts here in future. My Tumblr posts will usually be a photo or video with a one line caption. That's the difference.

Add me on Tumblr! =)

Back in Green

Busting out the ol' uniform again...

While being in green again does bring back some nostalgic feelings, it also once again reminds me that I'm not that young anymore. Walking around the camp with my thick and shaggy hair, while I see alot of botaks marching around. I can't believe they even phased out the Brown Admin Tee that we used to wear. It felt pretty new to me, since before my batch they were using the Grey coloured one. And there was no reason too, since it's basically the same material. Then again it might not be that new anymore, maybe I misjudge my age again. Haiz... It's not the age problem, I'm not afraid of growing old. It's just that I still haven't achieved my ultimate goal in life, and with each passing year, let's just say the chances don't increase very much...

Before I get too far off topic, I should probably continue my story.

So I when back to camp yesterday for a stupid one day ICT. I had to miss the closed bidding period for my modules just for that, but that's not the worst part. Thankfully I secured the module anyways. The worst part has got to be the waiting. How would you like to waste 10 hrs of your life?

I woke up at 5am yesterday, rushed breakfast and got into uniform and left my house by 6am to take a 1hr+ journey to camp. Arrived there at around 7.30am to register for In-Pro, and only left camp at around 6pm. So that's a total of more than 10hrs, give or take. That's some long day of training! What were we doing? Would you like to find out?

The answer is: Nothing!

I arrived there, WAIT to go in. Entered, WAIT in line to register. Move to auditorium, WAIT for everyone to arrive. After some briefings, we go to the hall for some admin stuff, and then WAIT for lunch. After lunch we gather back in the hall, and WAIT. Army loves it's standard few phrases, and i think the appropriate one here is: "wait for further instructions". And so we did. We basically just sat in the hall and waited for further instructions, and wait, and wait some more. When something finally happened, they just gave us a final debrief and dismissed us.

Seriously MEGA WASTE OF TIME. I kinda knew it already, and half expected as much, knowing the "efficiency" of our oh so mighty army. But this one is quite the record. I think we ended last year at around 3-4pm? This year it was a whopping 10 hrs! To be honest, the briefing could all be completed in 1-2 hrs. Lunch, probably at most 1 hr. Let's also give them 1hr for moving and processing time. There doesn't seem to be any reason to exceed 4-5hrs. In other words they took twice as long as needed. -_-"

Enough ranting. It wasn't a complete waste of time per se, just that we wasted a little too much time. The only good part was that I got to meet up with many old friends. Reservist doesn't seem too bad when there are so many familiar faces. It's like half my platoon from NS were there. With so many people you know, it's like NS all over again. For my other NS friends who were not there, guess who is support company CSM? None other than our joker ex-sec-com, Kelvin Yip. Can you even call that guy "Encik"? Looking at him makes my wanna laugh my ass off already. Ah yes, reservist life shouldn't be too bad. :)

Speaking of which. One thing that stuck me, was when they mentioned that: "this will be the people you will be working with for the next 10 yrs". I mean, 10 yrs?! That's a long time man. That's a huge time commitment! That feels like marriage! Seriously, I don't know where I'll see myself in 10yrs time. Good? Bad? Successful? In debt? Happy? Lonely? So much uncertainty, so much to hope for. Yet, so much to do to get there.

Where do you see yourself in 10 yrs?

Before I end off, I just wanna give a couple of shout-outs to my NS-mates, and fellow comrades for the next 10 years.
Aspiring NTU business student Zhi Wei. Why your GPA so pro one? :(
Pastor Daniel. You sure have many stories to share, fun talking to you.
Mr. Know-it-all Garang soldier YiFan. We are in your good hands. Haha.
Ho Siu Chuan and Brien. We hardly talk, so I still barely know you guys. Hope to chat up more next time ya?
And of course, our beloved CSM. "Encik" Kelvin. Don't defer! We want you to be our CSM!

Quite a catchy song:

lol. "Not Delilah, not Kelsey"?
I happen to know both of those songs. Nice reference.
This song was Actually written for the very girl acting in the music video. Cool huh?

/*//On a side note, I just realised I screwed myself by taking CS2102 this coming sem. Another Prof Bressan module. But oh well, gotta take it sometime... *///

I'm Just a Daydreamer...

Sorry I haven't updated in awhile. But it's really hard to find something to write about, when my like is now basically a boring repetition of events. It has gotten so bad that I sometimes don't even know what day of the week it is. Everyday seems the same. Wake up in the afternoon, eat lunch, camp out in my room, play some games, read some comics, sleep at 3 AM. My room feels like a Fortress of Solitude, if you get the Superman reference. Sometimes I feel like I'm waiting for change to happen. As if it would magically drop down from the sky, and break me out of this infinite loop. Fat chance.

A cycle of nothingness.

Nice new song from All Time Low

Listening to this song somehow reminds me of what I'd use to do during my Secondary School days. I was basically just a daydreamer, quite detached from everyone in general. Guess that's why I had hardly any friends. Maybe I was slightly anti-social, but I sure didn't realise it. At night I would immerse myself into my own imaginary world. It was a world where I had super powers and could do anything, including defeat all the super villains. But it's so immense that the story could fill an entire book or more. Haha. But I've kinda locked up that world in my mind since JC days. Haven't revisited it since.

Guess I'm weird huh? I know. X_X

Road Warrior at Night

the lonely tunnel...

Went back to camp today. Literally wasted time there. Realised I can don't go one, can exploit loophole. Didn't wanna waste the journey, so decided to stay for the exercises anyways. Haiz... So stupid. Had to walk through this tunnel on the way to the mrt. In some way it looks creepy and quiet from far. I seriously wouldn't have been surprised if there were drunken people or Hobos just lying down in there. But no, Singapore is way too clean for that.

Oh well. Music Video!

a super sad song... just my type eh?

Just downloaded her new album. From this song alone, seems like she has matured quite abit and has better voice control now. Then again, I don't know enough about her past songs to comment. Only listened to a few of the famous ones. Oh well, this album seems ok I guess. Got her standard cutesy songs, but now with a few more mature sounds. About time though, she's even older than me! Haven't listened finish, just downloaded, I really like this song though. And does that tunnel they ran through look like the one I walked through?! Lol, jk.

Oh and Jeffrey just flew off today. Gone to Australia for studies. Too bad I couldn't send him off. I was too busy being an idiot. I wish him all the best. In studies as well as his other endeavors. We will now forever be short of a DotA and Magic buddy. Haha. Take care buddy! =D

Well, that's all I got today. Super dead tired now. Either I'm growing old, or my fitness needs some serious work. IPPT also wanna die already.  I get the feeling it's both though. Sigh...
And I should seriously tune my bio-clock back to normal. I am officially nocturnal now, can't even wake up before 12 noon. WTF. Next sem 8am lessons sure die one.

Ok! Philson, go to sleep!! x_x

Which phone to get????!!!!!!

So totally stumped on this. Too many choices to choose from.
It's amazing that I even managed to reduce it down to these 3 choices.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc

I saw and held this phone at the shop in ION Orchard yesterday. I'm really starting to like this phone more and more. What can I say, it was love at first sight. Her sexy and curvy exterior had me hooked. Haha. Seriously though,  it looks pretty sleek. Yet the main turn off is the super lacking internal storage and slightly high price tag that M1 is having for this model. Other than that, definitely a top contender for my wallet.

HTC Sensation

This one does stand out in terms of features. It is quite the performance powerhouse. Video recording at 1080p@30fps and a dual core processor to boot! Then there is also the HTC sense UI, which I am not too aware about. Is it really good? What useful features does it bring? The looks don't really impress me though. Looks just like any typical HTC phone...

LG Optimus 2X

Another dual core phone, this time from LG. The only reason it's here is because M1 is offering a very attractive price on this model. The value for money rating for this phone beats most other models. The only problem is that I'm not too sure how reliable LG phones are. A few years ago, my friend told me that LG phones spoil easily when u drop them. Also, there was no support centre in Singapore. But that was a few years ago already...

So to help me out, please vote for the phone you think I should get. Thanks!

Which phone should I get?

New Phone?

As stated in title.
I really need a new phone soon. My phone's lifespan is soon coming to an end.
Farewell Omnia II, we hardly knew ye.

Jokes aside, it's really quite serious. Originally the only problem was the frequent crashing of the phone when I tried to lock/unlock the touchscreen. But eventually I bypassed that problem by adding a simple password to my phone. lol. Don't ask me why, it just didn't crash after that. To be honest, I didn't know I could set a password, until I saw my friend's Omnia. But I was glad I "fixed" that bug.

Then comes the lag that just exists in Windows Mobile OS (not WP7, it's WM6.5). Whenever I plug into USB, the phone auto lags and becomes very unusable afterwards. Thankfully, this can be solved quite easily through a simple restart of the phone. Though the windows booting up time can be annoying at times.

And then the charger got busted. The phone charges via the mini USB port. One day it just stopped working. I got a feeling that one of the small pins inside the charger broke or something. It still worked for awhile, when I had to tilt the phone or charger wire a certain angle for it to start charging. But after some time even that couldn't work anymore. So I tolerated it, and just charged my phone using the USB data cable. But charging the phone via my PC takes super duper long, and there is that lag phenomenon I mentioned earlier.

Up till now, I still managed to just bear it and hang on. But now the battery is starting to give up on me... Originally, it could last about a week with light/moderate use. Then after some time, maybe about 4-5 days. More recently, it made about 2-3 days just fine. But as of now, it barely lasts more than a day on standby. There is no way to "fix" this problem short of getting a new battery, but with all the other problems, I don't feel it's worth the effort.

So, I think it's about the time I get me a new phone.
And this is where I need some help.

I haven't been looking into many of the phone ads and reviews recently. In fact, I stopped caring about phones ever since I enlisted into NS. So, if anyone has recommendations on which brands and which models to go for, I'm all ears.

Right now, I'm leaning more towards a full touchscreen smartphone. Probably Android OS. I'd rather not get a Windows again, for a change. I'm not exactly crazy about Apple either. So Android seems like the most flexible. But I would like to hear more suggestions first, as well as which models are good.

Probably gonna buy it within the next one or two weeks. After the stupid 1 day ICT.

Random Screenshots

I don't even play this character at all...

I know I haven't posted in awhile. It's just so boring, I have nothing much to write about.
I did clean up my room yesterday. It was super exhausting. I haven't did something like that before. The last time I cleaned my room was probably at least 5-7 years ago. Yea, it's pretty messy... But I've shifted the furniture around, and managed to free up tons of space already. Nice new room layout. =)

No life + Bad grades = Fail

Nah, the title is just for fun.

If you want my reaction to my results in one word: indifferent
If you want the longer version, read on.

My exam results were released 2 days ago (that's on the 30th for those still counting). It was really weird because it came as sort of a rude awakening, literally. I had known it was coming for many days before it's release. Yet the day just before it was released, I had completely forgotten about it. Maybe just living in denial eh. I had meant to make this blog post a lot earlier, but my reactions were rather indifferent, and that kinda fueled my procrastination. Since Maple is undergoing a server check now, why not.

Our exam results are SMS-ed to our phones on the morning of the release. 7am to be precise. I was deep in slumber, and I believe my phone caused a mini-earthquake on my table by vibrating for a full 5-10 mins before I could drag myself out of bed...

So to cut to the chase, here were my exact reactions when I saw it:

"WTF! You woke me up to show me this?!"

"Damn. Results so chui. Totally unexpected."

"Screw it. I'm going back to bed."
"zzZ"

And that was about it. I can't even remember my own results. I shall go consult my phone now...

Ok, back. Ya... So my results. I don't feel like just throwing out my exact grades to the public and shame myself. All I can say is that my prediction was pretty spot on (check the old posts). For most of the predictions, just take the lower grade. :(

I did sufficiently ok for my 2 best modules, but it was not the best I could achieve. Super disappointed there. I thought I could finally get some 'A's. IS2101 was the worst major let down. I guess it wasn't unexpected. Over confidence, bleh. CS2100 was really totally expected. Though I was secretly praying for better, I have to be contented it was not a 'C'. Maths prediction was spot on, but effing disappointing too, mainly because the paper was so devastating.

I guess the whole paragraph above is kind of cryptic. But if you know me well, and you have read the previous posts, you can roughly make a guess.

So why indifferent? Well, because as terrible as I feel my grades were, they are leaps and bounds better than my semester one results. Yes kids, that's called an improvement. And with an overall CAP increment of 0.45. So as much as I am disappointed, I really can't complain too much. It is pretty far off from my initial all 'A's target though... Haiz. What can we do when it's all over right? So I don't really care about it much anymore. All I can tell myself is: "Good job. Do better next time."

Next time eh. I'm not even sure what modules I want to be taking next semester. Probably Accounting. And what else? Time will tell.

what a suitable song...

Automatic Loveletter
Fade Away lyrics

Can somebody show me
How to live that way?
'Cause it's easy
To hide your face
When everyone looks the same
Simply living
Color coded
Now that I match your look
Can everything be OK?

And I don't wanna fade away
Let the days go so quickly
And I don't wanna fade away
Let the days go so quickly

'Cause this night is for the chances
So dance around the crashes
Just to survive, to survive
'Cause these wounds will hide and
Blood will dry
But, Baby, we're still alive
Tonight

I don't wanna fade away
Like the songs in sad stories
Something to lose
And angels and demons
Have nothin' left to prove

Well, I don't wanna fade away
Let the days go quickly
And I don't wanna fade away
Let the days go so quickly

'Cause this night is for the chances
So dance around the crashes
Just to survive, to survive
'Cause these wounds will hide
And blood will dry
But, Baby, we're still alive
Tonight

I wanna wake up
I wanna wake up
I wanna wake up now

And I don't wanna fade away
Let the days go so quickly
'Cause this night is for the chances
So dance around the crashes
Just to survive, to survive
'Cause these wounds will hide
And blood will dry
But, Baby, we're still alive
Tonight

I don't wanna fade away
Let the days go so quickly
I don't wanna fade away
Let the days go so quickly

The Water Bearer

I said I'll post a separate blog post on my purchase yesterday. So here goes!

Besides all the gaming booths, there was a stall selling various anime merchandise and accessories. At first I was like, meh, nothing interesting just the usual stuff. Then as I walked out, I saw the keychains section. There a bunch of gold shining keys just hanging there. On a closer look, OMG they have all of Lucy's keys!

I'm not usually the sort of person who buys on impulse, but from the moment I saw it I knew I had to buy it. But then, if I went to buy all her keys including Plue and the other silver ones, it would probably cost me over a hundred dollars. So, I just bought the Aquarius one. Because, well duh, I'm an Aquarius.

My key:

Whahaha. Yes!

Too bad for the poor lighting and lousy camera. But don't let the picture fool you. The real thing is actually much brighter and shiny. The gold is also has a nice yellowish shine to it. The only noticeable difference is that the one in the anime has a white background at the Aquarius symbol. But I kinda prefer the gold one anyway. Looks nicer.

And look! I'm an official Fairy Tail mage too:

Oh wait, that ain't right. That's just the stamp that they gave me for taking part in the lucky draw. Oops.

I hope the key works though. Haha.

License2Play 2011

Today was a lot more fun than usual.
Went down to Suntec today to check out the License2Play and the Asiasoft Game Festival event just for fun.

It was pretty interesting just going around and looking at all the booths. There were arcade games, LAN games, console games, card games and more. We got to play a bit of all the various games they have, and participate in lucky draws that you'll probably never win. But most of all, you get to "loot" tons of free goodies!

Tons of free stickers!

Free goodie bag!
as well as some other freebies (not shown)

Surprisingly. Well, I guess maybe it's not surprising. There were quite a number of cosplayers there. And I'm not just referring to the booth girls trying to dress up like the game characters. There was a separate area designated just for cosplay. And of course, they were surrounded by quite a few people trying to take pictures. So I decided to snap one as well!

blurry photo...

All pictures here were taken with my regular 5 megapix phone camera and the quality is pretty atrocious, so I didn't bother taking many pictures. If you would still like to see more pix in future, you can let me know in the comments below.

Well, that was my day. Overall, it was pretty fun and I was really happy with my purchase, which I'll talk about in the next post. Hopefully I'll get to go to more events or outings soon. Then I get to take more pictures! ^_^

So, ask me out anytime. I very free one.

Peace

Super Powers. Super Bored.

I know I haven't posted in the last couple of days. The reason is that there is really nothing much to say. I haven't been doing much lately. Ok if you must know, I've been playing Maple Story. There you have it. Yes I've been playing that lame game. Truth is there isn't a whole lot else for me to do. If you got ideas on something interesting to do, PLEASE do tell me.

I've also been watching Fairy Tail anime and reading the manga. But even that has not been able to last me long enough. I've finish watching and reading all the available episodes already. Now waiting for weekly updates, sob. Maybe I'll rewatch the earlier episodes or something. It's been about a year already. Argh, I dunno.

When I'm bored, my mind tends to wander. That means I'll think about a random topic that can be any possible thing that just happens to pop in my head. A recent thought was: "If you could have one super power of your choice, what would it be?". I'm not quite sure why I would think about that. It's probably due to watching too much anime. I really wanted to write a full blog post on it, but was too lazy to login and post, so I'll just squeeze it here...

Well, to me the obvious number one choice would be Space-time manipulation (something similar to Hiro Nakashima from Heroes). The ability to travel freely through time - to the past and change things, to glimpse the future to make accurate predictions - is a fragile and complicated power to have, but really powerful if you have some idea how to exploit it. Not to mention the ability to stop time! Oh man, the broken things you can achieve with a 'pause button' that you can activate at will. Time manipulation is more than enough for me. The ability to teleport is really just an added bonus, but who's complaining? Although, time travel is actually impossible (another argument for another day), but when it comes to super powers, we can imagine up anything right?

But sometimes always going for the most straightforward choice is kinda boring. Another powerful ability I thought of is, for lack of a better name, Material manipulation. It is the ability to control all matter. You can add, remove, create, destroy or modify any form of matter. To give a more concrete example, the end result would be something like turning water into gold or turning air into steel. In other words you can change any other matter. It's slightly similar to Alchemy, but at the same time a lot more versatile. As and added bonus, it allows you to control the movement of objects. That means you can levitate or move objects with your mind. The only catch is that you'll probably need at least very thorough knowledge on chemical compounds if not a PhD in Chemistry AND Medicine, to fully exploit the potential of this power. But still it's a pretty cool ability. I mean, almost anything is possible with this ability. Probably the only things it can't do are those listed under Space-time manipulation above.
Having both powers actually makes you a true god.

Oh well, that was a whole lot of time wasted.

Off to bed. More time wasting tomorrow...

The Rich Ass Kids

Ok by the end of this post, I'm probably gonna sound like a super noob swar-ku fella, who still has a lot to learn. But this is just an honest journal entry.

So I went to meet up some friends at Orchard today. Man, I haven't been there in ages. The place looks rather different now. Met up with Shaun and Jeff at 313@Somerset, which I honestly didn't know of it's existence, and we ate at The Hand Burger. The food was decent, and the service was good. Filipinos no less.

Also there was David, Jeffrey's friend. That kid is damn RICH. Seriously. I believe living in an apartment in Orchard area is enough to prove that. 'nuff said. So anyway, we went to his house for some mindless gaming and all. I didn't want to be impolite, but his dog was really trying to sniff me. An unfamiliar smell to his nose I guess, or maybe just my deo. Honestly, dogs scare the shit out of me. It's not just the fact that I'm afraid of the dog, but I'm afraid for the dog. It's true that I'm afraid I might get bitten and such... But if that were to happen, I WILL kill the dog. I can guarantee that. And that wouldn't be very nice.

What can I say, I'm a cat person. Just stick with cats and it's cool.

Ate at Food Republic for dinner. Stupid PRC man rip me off lor. The standard Chinese Vegetable Rice he charged me $8.80. WTF right?! I mean, I know 8 is Chinese lucky number, but also no need like that what... And the food tastes horrible too. Officially ban that place.

Doing Nothing

So yea. Life has been pretty much boring these days, apart from waiting for the impending disaster that is exam results, which should be out on the 30th of this month I think. And what have I been doing all this while? Nothing. It's not the fact that I'm not doing anything, it's the fact that I'm doing Nothing. How do you do nothing you ask. Well, you simply don't! lol. Doing nothing is strictly worse than not doing anything, because you are idling you time away with low level brain activity and just rotting away. Yea that's what I pretty much did in army.  Whereas not doing anything simply means you have nothing important or constructive to do now, but you some idea as to what you'd like to do with this free time, and thus relish the extra time available.

Whole load of bull crap, I know. But whatever, I'm too free.

My best friend suggested that I go on a holiday. You know what? I WOULD really love to go on a holiday some day. It's just that there are a couple of "difficulties". Firstly would be the heart ache from the exorbitant costs involved. But as a trade-off for fun, that's something I can live with. What's more difficult is actually finding people to come with me. Going abroad alone is no fun. A small group of 2-4 people is usually more ideal. And lastly, my passport expired years ago. But that's a small problem that can be fixed.

As a short aside, here's a short story of why it's really difficult for me to find old friends to hang out with, let alone to travel with. All my secondary school friends went to poly, and we didn't really keep contact, with the exception of a few close ones, but while I was studying they were still in army, so we didn't meet up much also. And then the friends I had in JC, all never made it to NUS. Yep, NONE of them. They were all split up, 1 or 2 managed to get into NTU, a few of them went to SIM, and the rest of the bunch are probably at some private Uni or who knows where. Another interesting fact, is that my entire JC project work team, dropped out of JC after first year, leaving me alone as the only member left. Fun life huh? So as you can see, I've always been the outcast. Or the best of the worst bunch, however you wanna look at it. Such is life.

That being said, I finally went to the airport yesterday. It was my first time going to Terminal 3, and it was really nice! There were quite a number of shops and places to eat, like a mini shopping mall. I wanted to eat at Popeye's, but it was kinda crowded so I ate at the super-empty Subway instead. Shopped at Candy Empire, which was nice, they have lots of stuff that's difficult to find elsewhere. What I was really pleased with, is the 5-star style toilets! Super squeaky clean, and maximum spaciousness. They also have the paper dispensed from underneath the mirror for you to dry your hands. While not the first time I've seen this, I still find it pretty neat. Terminal 3 also had a nice super slide that was awesome! There are two levels of slides. One is the a slide from B2 to B3, mainly for kids and noobs. The other one is from 1st story to B3, but requires you to show a $10 or more receipt to ride. Pretty cool.

Other than my sudden urge to visit the airport though, my other days this week has been a pretty boring ritual. Wake up in the afternoon, then Youtube + Manga + Comics all the way into the night, then DotA til morning, then go to bed. Don't get me wrong, it's a fun way to be doing Nothing, but let's be honest it's still doing Nothing. Sian.

Where did I go wrong? I lost a friend somewhere along in the bitterness...

3 months holiday. Sigh, just what am I gonna do!

Renovations Complete

Just finished touching up the last few minor stuff for the blog. I've started using Labels (or Tags or wadeva it's called), to categorise my blog posts. You can now check out music videos only, or content posts only, by clicking the appropriate link under "Categories" on the right bar. Of course, Chapter Two should be added in the future.

If you haven't noticed by now, or have your volume on mute, another thing I added was a little Jukebox, so that I can share my emo music with you. :)
Kidding, I already tried to select the more upbeat and interesting songs I have. Trust me, it wasn't easy. Building that 20+ songs playlist took several hours of scanning my itunes for songs. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

So there you have it. This will be my new blog skin / layout for quite some time to come. Honestly it's super tedious just to do it, but I think the results turned out quite nice. There are some compatibility problems with old embedded videos, because their width exceed the width of the new skin, but I'll probably just leave them be. Too lazy to edit each post. Dunno why this skin so narrow also.

Comments are now also more inconspicuous, appearing in pop-up boxes instead, rather than having to go to a dedicated page, which I found mildly troublesome. If you think there are more things I can add and know how to, please tell me. I'm not very experienced with coding in blogger...

Automatic Loveletter--The Day That Saved Us (Lyrics)

Walking down the street that we grew up in
But today is not the same
It's like a different town, a different place, a different name
I kick my heels against the curb
Throw a stone to where you live
To hoping I'll see you again
Hope is low
Will you show?

And I remember that day that saved us
The way you kissed me and the salt, it filled my eyes
We remember our California
The night we slept along the shore and washed away

Lying on the sand, the waves are talking
And the humming of the trains
But it's a different sound, a different cloud, a different rain
My blood flows faster with every thought of everything that happened here
And it takes the pain away
Hope is low
Will you show again?

And I remember that day that saved us
The way you kissed me and the salt, it filled my eyes
We remember our California
The night we slept along the shore and washed away

I remember the day that saved us
The way you kissed me and the salt, it filled my eyes

And I remember that day that saved us
The way you kissed me and the salt, it filled my eyes
We remember our California
The night we slept along the shore and washed away

Do you remember me?
I still remember this
Do you remember me?
Do you remember me?
I still remember this
Do you remember me?

Mother's Day

I know this is one day late, but we only cut the cake today. We kind of ate way too much yesterday, bursting at the seems. So anyway, here is the cake I bought for my mom:

yummy coffee cake

Just finished eating the cake, now digesting. :)

On a side note, I just started jogging again today. I think it's been close to a year since the last time I exercised. My fitness has seriously fallen into the drain. After barely running 2km+, I started feeling very tired already. Need to start running more often...

Been sleeping late recently. So I'm trying to sleep earlier today. Good night.

Happy Belated Mother's Day to all moms around the world!
Your children are what they are thanks to you!

Renovation Works

In the next one or two days, I'll be doing upgrading works on this blog. It's about time I changed the look of this blog. It's still using the default theme, and a mono-coloured background. Honestly quite boring. But a blog is more about the contents than the aesthetics right?

Yep. So I'll be changing stuff around. Hopefully everyone will like the new layout.  Stay tuned! :D

/*// EDIT: Ok, I am FINALLY done with most of the theme coding and editing. Took me close to the entire day to do this. I am dead tired now. Gonna go take a break. Shall do the final minor cosmetic touch-ups when I have time tomorrow... //*/

End of Chapter One

Everything that has a beginning has an end...

So this is supposed to be the big finale to end off Chapter One and Year One of my academic life. Perhaps I overstated this in the previous post, and some of you may have been expecting something great. To be honest, I didn’t really spend a lot of time preparing this, so it’s mostly gonna be off the cuff, and based on whatever I can think off. So unfortunately, it may not cover everything like I hoped it would. Anyway, let’s get started.
In the first few posts, I think I had stated that I intended this blog to be more optimistic and positive than emo. However, I spent awhile glancing through some of my older posts and found that it wasn’t always the case… But it can’t be helped right? I’ll always just speak my mind here. What’s the purpose of this post? Well, it’s certainly not exactly encouraging everyone to go dig up my old posts, but rather to serve as a short summary of what has happened thus far.
Looking back at things, it seems that I can split it up into four phases in chronological order. The first two being the first half of the semester up to the mid terms and the other two thereafter. So, I shall attempt to give a brief summary of each phase and how it affected me, and then move on to the next phase, in chronological order. So without further ado, let’s go!

Phase I: A new beginning

It’s a little weird because I started this blog during Semester two of Year one, so it technically doesn’t cover Semester one and the starting few weeks of Semester two. So, this part is actually a bonus section of sorts…
Phase one was good overall. It was the start of the new semester, and I was feeling pumped, totally prepared to score myself 5 ‘A’s and pull my results back up on track. It was also supposedly going to be the beginning of a brand new experience I was looking forward to. In semester one, I didn’t really have any friends who were in the same classes as me. So it felt like semester two was gonna be a bright new change for me, and for the first time in a long while, I felt really hopeful. And who could forget the big launch of this blog that coincided with my birthday. It also marked the first time anyone celebrated my birthday with me. Needless to say, it was all smiles and I was feeling super motivated for the period ahead. Marching on to the thought of “I’m so gonna score me some ‘A’s!”.

Phase II: Things are not always as perfect as they seem

So this phase is the part where it’s approaching the middle of the semester. What it also means, is that the mid-term tests were approaching. I guess I could have studied a lot harder than what I was doing. But I dunno why I didn’t. I suppose it was due to certain ‘developments’, and stuff that were happening around me, that affected me thoroughly…
Right, so mid-term tests. To be honest, none of the tests were particularly difficult. They were all doable to a certain degree. Except of course, the CS2100 paper… But even that was a ‘passable’ paper if you knew your stuff. Unfortunately, I didn’t. The results of the test were out shortly after, within one or two weeks.
Some were good, others not so. I did surprisingly well for the Economics test, considering I hadn’t really revised much for that. Sadly, it seemed that other than Ben, the rest of my friends didn’t do too well. I was also really happy with my CS1020 results, mostly due to the “Good. Keep it up.” comment posted in my online gradebook, rather than the 70+% score I got. I sure a lot of other people did just as well.
Well, that was the good part. The others were quite dismal really. I thought that I would do alright enough for the Calculus test, be the announcement that came back was, I quote: “..those that got 35 and above, keep it up. Those would didn’t please work harder…” So I took my score and subtracted 35, only to get a negative number… Sad face. That wasn’t the worst though. CS2100 was a dismal failure. It marked the first time I had a single digit score on my script, albeit the total was only 30.
If happiness and morale were charted in peaks and troughs, you could say that Phase two was the deepest valley, at least for this semester. More importantly, it was the dawning of a realisation, that things are not always as perfect as they seem, and that all good things come to an end.  Suffice to say, I was rather demoralised for that period of time.

Phase III: A Knight Returns

I’m not sure exactly when or why it happened, but it was at this point of time that I realised that I was starting to change. But at the very same time, I felt a part of me that was starting to come back. Not in a negative sense, but rather the old me that had got me thus far in terms of academic grades. i.e. in simple terms I was starting to get my old me and my brains back. It was like being shaken out of slumber and to shake off the sort of numbness and lethargy that had set in after two whole solid years of doing nothing at all (NS).
That’s why I named this phase “A Knight Returns”, signifying a return of a part of my older self from back in my student days. For the record, I prefer the term Knight rather than King, Hero, God, etc. While other terms may sound better/stronger, Knight suits me better. After all, my online user name in most places is AzureKn1ght, so it’s only appropriate to use it.

It’s funny because when people change, they don’t usually feel it happening and can’t tell it themselves. Whereas in my case, I can clearly see what I used to be and what I’m becoming. Having a part of my older self come back, is really only half of the transformation. The other thing I noticed is that I’m starting to become friendlier and slightly more sociable, as compared to my pass anti-social self.

Only slightly so far though. Transformation is a slow and painful process that doesn’t just happen overnight. At least I felt I made a little progress hanging out with Julian, Jonah, and their gang of people after math lessons. A small step I know, but at least making some progresses in that aspect. It’s not really that I don’t wanna go out and socialise more, it’s just that no one ever asks me out. Organise an event and I’ll be there!

Oh yea, I wanna use this opportunity to share an inspirational figure I found recently. Patrick Stump.

It’s a rather inspirational song. But not only that, he sure has changed a ton from back in the days. For those of you who don’t already know, he was the lead singer of Fall Out Boy, but they disbanded already. I won’t blame you if you can’t tell, go look at his old photos and his new look. Boy, has he lost some weight, totally polished up his new image.
Which incidentally, is what I aim to be doing this holiday. Training my IPPT as well as working out to lose weight and build some muscle mass. Granted, I probably can’t achieve such drastic result like his, without a proper gym and person trainer. I’m just aiming to lose a few kilos plus look and feel better is all. So, I’ll most likely be doing DIY exercise by myself. If you live close enough to Seng Kang, and wanna join in, just gimme a call.
Whoops, went slightly off topic there.

Phase IV: The battle for freedom

Finally of course, was the final exams. I had 4 exams this time round which was supposed to be more manageable than the usual 5 exams. That is, if it wasn’t for the fact that I had to clear 3 exams within 4 consecutive days, and then wait 8 days for the last one. And to be honest the 8 days didn’t help too much either…
So, a quick run through of the exams of the past two weeks. The first one was CS2100, deliberately held on a Saturday again. It was really a surprisingly doable paper. Nothing too unexpected came out. A few of the questions were in fact similar to those in past year papers. Although I’m really not sure of my answers and I left one question totally blank. Then came the Economics paper on Monday, which was crazy difficult. I mean, 80 questions in 120mins? Talk about time constraint. Plus, a whole lot of the questions required some form of calculations. I was barely able to finish the paper, without any time to check my answers again. The Very Next Day was the CS1020 paper, which meant that I didn’t really have a lot of time to study that at all. I just squeezed in some last minute reading and made my 1xA4 help-sheet for the exam. Naturally, it was fraught with careless mistakes…

8 days is seriously too long for me. You can't study for questions you have never even seen before. By the last day, I was just wishing for the whole thing to end. It’s like sitting there waiting for freedom to come. And now it has! Yay! Anyway as per usual, I usually do a rough self-assessment after every exam, and I have been quite accurate in my predictions thus far. With the exception of last semester though, as it was my first time in NUS, and little did I know that everyone here is so crazy. The moderation in NUS actually reduces my score! Previous moderations in other exams I’ve took usually pull up my score. Anyway I’ll just hazard a rough prediction this time round. If nothing goes wrong, I’m expecting an ‘A’ or at the very least an ‘A-‘ for CS1020, and either ‘A-‘ or ‘B+’ for both Economics and IS2101-which is fully project based. However, I’m not as optimistic for CS2100 and MA1312 let’s just say I’ll be happy with a ‘B’ for each. Though realistically speaking, either one could be a ‘B’ or ‘B-‘, again depending on the almighty “bell-curve” phenomena.  Overall, not very impressive as you can see. Most certainly not the 5 ‘A’s that I was hoping for…

Well, so there you have it. That’s my story. At least for Academic Year 1 Semester 2. Nothing too exciting really happened this semester. Semester 1 was possibly more interesting. I am looking forward to the next semester where hopefully more fun and excitement await. I will be taking more business modules and less of the technical stuff I did this sem. Hopefully the change of pace would prove to be more refreshing.

Innovation is underrated in my opinion. You should always try to change for the better. The smallest intricate improvements can create huge differences. As such, I’m always seeking ways for improvement both for myself and the things I do. Indifference is pure evil, and I am glad to have been shaken out of it.

Following the same reasoning, I will not be voting for the PAP tomorrow. It is evident that they have been in power for far too long, and I believe they have grown far too complacent. They probably believe they can maintain their rule for another 100 years. Competition spawns change and innovation; it forces them to work harder and better for the people if nothing else. That alone is reason enough for me to vote for the opposition.
What about me? Have I changed for the better? My honest answer is no. I’m not done changing yet. I’m always changing and reinventing. For starters, I shall be using this holiday period to work out some improvements. I mean, that’s what Incomplete Perfexion is about right? Nothing is inherently completely perfect. That’s why we should work at it and continuously change for the better.

“Be the change you want to see.”

That's all I have to say. Please do leave you thoughts and opinion below. What do you think of my year, or how I reviewed it? How can I improve? Friendly advice would be helpful. Thanks.

Thanks for the Memories

Since this is a relatively new blog, I've been thinking what I should do to sort of "close off" the end of the semester. It's not exactly an academic blog but much like mixed & match freeform journal, and every start/end of the semester does represent like a new stage of my life. And yes, that does mean that my semester hasn't ended. Unlike most of my peers enjoying life now, I'm preparing for the last Calculus exam on Wednesday.

So as I was saying, I was wondering what I should do in the last post of the semester (which would probably be the next post I think). Well, I had an idea. Since I had started the blog somewhere around the start of the semester (not quite, but around my birthday anyway), and the first post was labeled "Chapter One", so I should probably start Chapter Two around the next significant event. Iff nothing much happens in my holiday, that would mean "Chapter Two" would be the start of next semester, and everything during the break would be "Chapter One: Extras". Get it? No? Ok, I don't really either.

Oh, but before that... I would like to conclude my Chapters. Like a famous Chinese proverbs says: "Everything that has a head, should have a rear" (excuse my weak translation). So, I will be doing a conclusion post sometime after the exam. Expect a Mega Long post, that would not only sum up my exam experiences, but my life in this entire semester as a whole. I'll even be writing a draft on paper before that! Don't get me wrong, I'm not an attention seeker type, quite the opposite in fact. What I like to do frequently, is to put my life into perspective, and evaluate/reflect/analyse the things that have happened. It's just the first time I'm posting it digitally, it's always just done in my head. But this way if you don't like me, you can just tell me straight in the comments.

So yeah, do look forward to that. Be sure to subscribe so you don't miss it! Link is at the top right! (Shameless self-promotion much :P).

At this point, I feel it only appropriate to share this song...

One of the "Legendary Best Songs Every Made", IMO.

Thanks for the memories...

So that's about it for today. If you have any ideas what I should be writing about, especially in the final post, do drop a comment. Or should I do something more special? You are allowed to make requests. It would be useful if I do encounter a writer's block. If you just want to say you like/dislike me, go ahead. I don't hate people who dislike me, I just like finding out the reasons, so that if they are valid I can improve.

Stay Tuned! :D
