Moshi Moshi Nippon SG 2015

Looks like I finally found the time to sit down and write my post about the Moshi Moshi Nippon SG festival that I attended quite some time back. Also because of the haze that's going on right now. The air quality is really too unhealthy for me to be going out doing stuff. Best to stay indoors with my aircon and air purifier. I mean seriously fuck Indonesia, why they got to do this to us yearly? We should honestly consider taking actions against them.

But enough of the haze rant. About the event, this was my first time attending such an event. I actually didn't know what to expect going in. The main event was held inside the Scape underground theatre but everything was on stage and bordered up. Way different from the previous events I went to. No photography and all, it felt like a real concert. Naturally, I was there to take photos and no one was gonna stop me. Stop those people wielding DSLRs before you come and talk to me, I'm just using my Galaxy S6 and struggling in the low light environment!

So anyway, they started off with a Harajuku Fashion Show which ironically was put together by a young Singaporean designer I think. After that was a rock out concert most of the way, with performances by CHEERZ, PCF, matsushita and Anna Yano. There was also a few songs sung by our local USAGI, not too bad. Then there was some advertising in the middle about Japan travels or something. After which was a Cosplay showcase of sorts that is so far away from the crowd. Finally, we rocked out to AMIAYA to close out the performances.

To be honest, I wasn't too hyped up about the musical performances. I mean, my original intentions was to go there and take pictures of the cosplays and possibly look around the other stuff. But damn the crowd was crazy. Got a bunch of teens in front of me were really into the PCF performance, they were jumping and cheering along as well. That was fine and all, but they kept eating into my space and hindering my shooting. Haha. In any case, I didn't really enjoy the first half of the concert. I'm not into dance music. Not my thing.

The second half was much better though. I really enjoyed the SAO songs performed by USAGI. Anna Yano also not too bad but I don't know her songs. Then there was the cosplay show that I was really angry about. I mean if you can see from my photo, it's damn disappointing. I always believed that one of the underlying principles behind cosplay, is that is it by the people for the people. Ordinary everyday folk who transform into something special when the occasion arises. Not parade on some stage like this. It's not about celebrity and stardom, it's about being accessible and close to the people. Also, how am I supposed to take pictures like this! :(

I also somewhat liked the performance by AMIAYA at the end. Sure their genre of music may not be what I like, what with all the techno beats and autotune stuff. But damn these girls know how to rock and party the house down. Did I mention they are also really really pretty? But more so in a modern urban chic kind of way, since I think they are models. Their story is also kind of inspiring, being born into the whole modern urbanized environment that is cold, but yet futuristic and beautiful in it's own way. I don't know if I am still making any sense here. But basically, I can't help but think back about my comparison of Japan with Singapore. We are still lightyears behind them. Just a stray thought.

Don't get me wrong though. Throughout this post, it may seem like I am complaining, but I'm just being critical over my first concert-ish experience here. Overall, I would say that I did enjoy myself at the event in general. It was somewhat of an eye opening experience, and hey I got a free balloon out of it! LOL. But I must say, the picture taking experience was a nightmare come true. The conditions were so bad, I had to spam burst mode in order to pray for 1 usable shot. After some elimination, I had 500+ photos to look through!!! After the painstaking narrow down and editing, I finally ended with 100+ photos posted onto Facebook. That's a fuckin 400% excess that I had to slog through! So, if you are interested in looking at the finalized pictures, do visit my Facebook album below.

Til next time! :)
