Just Good Friends Hanging

Right after the party on Wednesday, I managed to arrange an outing wih Shaun and Jeffrey. It was kind of a long awaited thing for me. Because Jeff is studying in Australia now, so it is not as easy for us to meet up anymore. But he recently just came back to Singapore for the holidays, so a meet up is a must. I just wish we could meet more often, since he is flying off again on the 6th...

Anyway, this post is about what happened on Thursday. I wanted to put  this up yesterday, but was too tired to do so. Hey, it's difficult to put up more than 1 post a day! I do quite a bit of thought and put time into these things. It's not some short one-liners. I put my heart and soul into these!

After all, it's gotta come from the heart right?  =P

But it is quickly approaching the new year!! Ah!!! I feel like I should be cleaning or packing something. There is so much to do, so little time. Before I get distracted again, let's get started on this shall we?

So we met up at 2pm at Dhoby Ghaut on wed. I realised how long it has been since I've been there. The old "PC Bunk" place is kind of different now. There used to be an Asiasoft/MapleSEA office located in there. But now it is completely replaced! The counter is now a snack stall, and the "office" part is now a games and cards shop! Total sua ku moment.

The arrangement, was for us to have lunch first before meeting. But due to complications, and my wake up timing, Shaun and I had not eaten. So we bought Carl's Jr for lunch. The burger was quite big, and he gave me a large fries by mistake. I really like their fries, some still with potato skins on them. Really crispy too.

We then proceeded to do our Magic Draft of the latest set: Innistrad. We all went in blind, or at least I did. I had no idea what were the card interactions and what colours were good etc. I feel like I make a terrible drafter. I always tend to pick slow clunky cards, and too many spells. Somehow I will always end up with not enough creatures to play. And the number of required colours of mana, taking double coloured mana cards. Seriously, what was I thinking.

Oh well. Winning isn't always the most important thing. Though it is usually the loser who would say that, so I doubt the wisdom of that statement. More importantly though, we had fun. Tons and tons of fun. And that's what mattered. A good chit-chat and fun session is required every once in awhile. Anyway, here's a picture of some of the cards I opened.

Click to zoom. Image quality is ridiculously awesome!

Taken with my phone cam. The clarity is surprisingly good. I can even read all the text!
Cool thing was I opened a Mythic Rare, which supposed to be like around 1 in 8 packs? Not so cool was that it was a crap mythic. Still, good enough to be in my EDH/Commander deck. Super bombastic spell indeed.

Pity that Jeff had to leave. We rushed our games, and with me not having played Magic in a long time, I made all the mistakes possible. Brain rusty. I'm more of a deck construction specialist, not so good with drafting picks and playing Limited in general. There was a rather weird character there. He is friends of Shaun and Jeff apparently, but really new to Magic, I didn't manage to get his name. He was asking me to take a look at his deck and all. It was simply a random pile of green cards. Green not really my favorite colour. Definitely not mono-green at least. Gimme a bigger pool of cards to work with, and I'll construct a decent deck for you.

After Jeff left, we were wondering what to do after that. Since their friend 'Tim' added me blindly on FB without having ever met...... Shaun suggested that we go meet him at the place he is working at, and have dinner at the same time. Tim works at a restaurant called "Just Acia", which after having eaten there, I highly recommend to all of you out there. Maybe I'm a little late in discovering it, but damn! Freeflow ice-cream and hot/cold drinks is unbelievable! I could kill myself with ice-cream alone! Anyway, here is what I had.

Fried dory fish with rice and loads of Cheese!

Dinner was great. Not just for the food, but the chit-chat session that came with it. I had a good long catch up session with Shaun after not meeting for so long. I think we chatted for more than an hour. Naturally I'm not gonna share the contents of our chat here, private stuff. But suffice to say, we got to learn and understand each other better. I feel a lot older now, with the new year soon approaching.  Perhaps I should..... Go out and do something drastic? O___o

Oh yes, about Tim. I think he is an interesting fella. Very hard working as a staff there, and quite friendly as a friend. I think I know more or less what he does as a hobby, but in real life doing normal stuff, he seems fine. I reserve my judgement on cosplayers. I neither condone nor condemn it. To discuss that would take one whole if not many blog posts. Mentioning anything here just doesn't do it any justice.

After reaching home, we contacted Jeff again on Skype and then proceeded to play our usual DotA. Fun times. Just gaming and chit-chat sessions and hanging out. So hard to come by for me, but so damn fun and enjoyable. In fact, Thursday was probably the most fun day of my entire holidays. I just wish I could do it more often.

I shall end off with a classic song:

Such a captivating song. It never gets old.

New year is coming. I should probably make some new year resolutions.
