Chapter Six: Balance

Yo!
It's a brand new start of an all new semester!

Yesterday was my official first day of school. For some reason, I always get really excited about semester 2. It's the last stretch before the holidays. Also, the combination of modules has usually been interesting to me. This sem is about the same as well. I'm taking IS4227 which involves some programming, which is my interest. At the same time, I'll be taking IS3220, which is a pure presentation module, also something I have fun doing.

And yes, I find doing presentations quite fun really. Up until uni, I've always feared presentations. I was usually too nervous and shy to present any shit. But after coming here, I got really interested in design all of a sudden. And I absolutely love designing PowerPoint slides! Usually when you compare my slide designs to the rest of the class, it just blows them all out of the water. Then all that's left is to be confident and present what you came to say, which is that much easier when you have impressive slides. It really boosts confidence levels.

Other modules I'm taking this sem include IS1112, which will be about E-Business and E-commerce, so that should be rather interesting to learn. TWK teaching the mod, hopefully he doesn't fuck up my grade again. LOL. IS4226 was the 2nd lecture I attended this week, and the lecturer damn funny, and looks like Adam Khoo. But seriously, you can see how hard he is trying to make the module more fun. So, props to him for trying! Then there is IS3230, which is about Information Security, which isn't exactly my forte, but seems okay enough considering I scored an 'A' for the other security GEM mod. Anand module should be fine.

I don't foresee any major problems this semester, but I still need to do what is required of me. I can't take things too lightly anymore, after having severely underestimated the 8MC project last sem. I seriously wanted to kill myself over the results, but I guess I'm past that now...

Before I end off this post, I just want to acknowledge that it is the new year, and the new semester at the same time. It's this special overlap that makes me feel refreshed and renewed. It's basically a clean slate again. With that in mind, I would like to take this time to set my core values for my new year resolution. It falls into 3 simple principles.

Confidence. But not complacence.
Make Swift Decisions. But not rash decisions.
Polish and Professionalism. But not arrogance.

These will be my 3 core values to keep in mind for this sem and this year. Feel free to adopt it too if you believe it helps you as well. I just feel that it's good to have the "But" clause behind, to set clear limits for yourself, rather than vague goals. It brings about balance. At least you know not to go overboard. It's something new I'm trying out as I mature in thought. Let's hope it helps.

So, good luck to everyone in the coming semester! :)
